It’s time for some jazz-fusion today. And I’ve got a hankerin’ for some guitar-dominated music played in a way that just sets your hair if not your soul on fire, with plenty of Latin rhythm and flair. I’m talkin’ some electric guitar as provided by Al DiMeola.
It should be a crime for anyone to get so good at something so early in life the way Al DiMeola did. When he was in his late teens or early 20s, he was helping Return To Forever — which had already made a name for itself in the fusion movement of the early to mid-1970s — become known as one of THE top fusion bands in the world.
He did it with precision. He did it with passion. He did it with speed. He did it with touch. They’re all qualities that carry over to this day, all these years later, in everything that he plays, whether it’s with Return To Forever in a reunited form or in his own solo work.
It’s all good.
