I was raised from birth on country AND western music, thanks to my mother and the genes of my late father.  I had a steady diet of it, for years and years.  I’m not complaining.  I’m actually proud of it.  It’s an important part of my roots.

And when I say country and western, I mean country … AND WESTERN.  In that department, that usually meant listening to the voice of Marty Robbins.

I’d love to hear someone today try and duplicate Marty Robbins’ crisp, clear voice and the way of delivering a song that was his and his alone.  I’d love to hear it, because Marty left us too soon, in 1982 at age 57.  He definitely lived a full life, though.  It’s easy to forget he was a NASCAR driver too, competing in 35 races with six top 10 finishes.

But it was his singing and his music that will endure forever.
