I’m wishing I could be in northern California today.  I’m sure there’ll be a great party going on there sometime today, with lots of friends getting together to wish one special friend a happy birthday.

I now know how those parties go.  That’s why I’m wishing I could be there.

This one friend who’s celebrating the birthday today is a huge music fan.  You name it — Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, Billie Holiday, Howlin’ Wolf, Jimmy Reed, Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee, John Lee Hooker, on through to the great soul and rock and gospel artists.

The man lives, eats, and breathes music.  It’s his life.  I can relate to that.

And today is his birthday.  So I’ll put a special playlist together today on this “Funky Friday,” just for his 72nd birthday, along with a little tribute in a link below.

Happy birthday, Lester Chambers!  You’re not getting older, you’re getting better!

  1. You’re right! You missed a GREAT Birthday party! We listened to vintage Chambers Brothers LPs and occasionally heard Lester singing harmonies with himself & his brothers and Dylan popping in. It was a wonderful night! Dylan “threw down” with the food too, by the way! Great playlist today, John. Really enjoyed it!
