Gotta love those Super Bowl commercials … well, most of ’em

If there’s one sure-fire way to get men, women, and children together to watch a big game — even if they don’t like football — it’s, of course, so everyone can see the new Super Bowl television ads … year after year.

For the true football fans, it makes you pray for a slow point in time during the actual game so you don’t miss any of the action, both on the field AND in the commercials.  After all, a person needs to use the restroom sometime!

With all that in mind, here are some memorable Super Bowl ads from the past … and don’t look at me if you disagree with anyone’s selections in these videos.

And, hey, come Sunday I’ll give my actual SUPER BOWL GAMEDAY PREDICTION!  PLUS I’LL GIVE LIVE UPDATES ON MY BLOG THROUGHOUT THE GAME!

Stay tuned!

My music playlist for today (February 3, 2012 edition)

There’s a good reason why today is called “The Day The Music Died.”  When you lose music pioneers such as Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and J.P. “The Big Bopper” Richardson — all in the same plane crash — it makes for a remarkable tragedy in music history.

And it all happened on February 3, 1959, near Clear Lake, Iowa.

Modern music might not have been quite the same if it weren’t for the three who died in that crash.  Holly was one of the biggest overall influences in rock music.  Valens was a great influence on artists like Carlos Santana and Los Lobos.  Richardson touched country music heavily with songs like “White Lightning” which George Jones made famous.

The accident was something immortalized not just in story but in song as well, in the Don McLean classic “American Pie.”

And now, on to a tribute to the “big three” who died.
